A good government's job is never done, because there will always be challenges, African National Congress (ANC) treasurer-general Mathews Phosa said on Tuesday.
Addressing a gathering of business leaders at the ANC progressive business forum in Durban, a confident Phosa said preparations were under way for the "new government" to take over after next month's election.
"The ANC will emerge the winner... and our task is to ensure a resounding victory."
The party, he said, was expected to outline its future plans in the next few weeks.
"Right now, it's a secret."
Phosa also reiterated the five priorities areas of the ruling party: crime, education, poverty, health and agriculture.
He said more than 60% of South Africa's population live in rural areas and that the ANC's main aim was to protect the vulnerable and alleviate poverty.
"They want good roads, water, sanitation and jobs just like everyone else..." he said.
Phosa also emphasised the importance of the legacy of former president Nelson Mandela.
"This nation must never drop the Mandela legacy," he said.
Phosa also highlighted the need to focus on economic and social transformation.
After the ANC wins the elections, he said, the party would reshape and refine the deteriorating economy.
