This report from the United Nations secretary-general's Advisory Group on Climate Change states that increasing access to clean energy and improving its efficiency is vital to both enhancing global prosperity and combating climate change. Energy services are essential for meeting basic human needs, reducing poverty, and promoting sustainable development. Yet about 1,5-billion people still lack access to electricity, and around 2,5-billion people rely on traditional biomass for energy.
