Congress of the People (COPE) will on tomorrow (Friday) submit Parliamentary questions on the reported allegations of the misuse of money by Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and further ask the Auditor General to investigate the matter.
COPE will ask the Auditor General to ascertain whether the reported misspent of funds does not equate to wasteful expenditure.
The Police secret fund must be properly regulated with proper oversight because if allowed to continue it will be misused and looted by those in power in the police force.
We must prevent those in charge of it from violating the Public Management Act (PMA).
We therefore call upon the Minister Nathi Mthethwa to scrutinise the secret fund and act on misinformation around expenditure that is not in line with the programmes of the department.
COPE suspects these allegations are just a tip of the ice berg and more and worse are to follow as suspended Intelligence boss, Richard Mdluli get squeezed.
