Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will receive the annual Rotary Club of Johannesburg Achiever of the Year Award for his sustained work on streamlining the South African tax system during his years of service as Commissioner of Revenue Services, prior to taking over ministerial duties in May 2009.
The award will be made at a gala dinner on the 26th of August, to be held at the Johannesburg Country Club in Aucklandpark, Johannesburg, at 7pm. This is an event that is open to the public, and represents a fundraising opportunity for Rotary. Three impressive Raffle Prizes of Swiss International Airline tickets and gold coins sponsored by the UBS, will be drawn at the end of the evening, with tickets on sale at R50 each.
Individual seats are available at R350.00, and tables of 10 seats each at a discounted price of R3000.00 per table.
Recent Achiever of the Year awards have been made to former SARB Governor Tito Mboweni, former Springbok rugby coach Jake White, Constitutional Court Judge Zak Yacoob and 2008 Global Mayor of the Year, Helen Zille.
Award convener, Rotarian Tony Twine said that the award dinners are always far less stuffy than they sound like they might be. "So join us for what may not be described as a free lunch, but certainly the best opportunity that you will have for a no-VAT dinner with the Minister of Finance."
