Karima Brown has been appointed as deputy editor of The New Age newspaper. She takes up her new position on 2nd August 2010.

This is the paper's first senior appointment after Vuyo Mvoko was announced as the newspaper's editor in chief.

Currently political editor of Business Day - a position she has held over the past four years - Karima was also a political correspondent for Independent Newspapers between 2004 and 2005 and prior to that was executive producer for Current Affairs at SAFM at the SABC between 1996 and 2004.

Karima is very excited about her appointment. "It is a daunting task but it is also an exciting one," says Karima, "and I believe The New Age newspaper will bring increasing diversity to the media landscape in South Africa in both content and ownership," she says.

"The New Age will be about excellence and we will be involved in the critical conversations about the country, its progress, its successes and its many challenges."

Vuyo Mvoko, editor in chief at The New Age says Karima's appointment is an indication of the calibre of journalists they are hiring and he is looking forward to working with her as she brings both integrity and a wealth of experience to the newspaper.

"The New Age is going to seek the best people in the field and this is an indication of the newspaper's commitment to excellence," he concludes.
