We refer to reports in print media and broadcast on radio which list deals by various companies linked to President Jacob Zuma and how these companies benefited from such ties.

These deals, highlighted in response to DA, MP Athol Trollip's concern about “the growing list of family members and friends of President Zuma who have benefited from business deals with the state”, include a tender for new offices for the Department of Public Service and Administration. It is stated that the R1bn tender was awarded to the Billion Group.

This is factually incorrect.

The tender has not been awarded. The Billion Group is not a bidder for this tender.

However, tenders have been submitted by two subsidiary companies, Alkara 334 Pty (Ltd) and Zacacode Pty (Ltd). Billion Group is a developer, appointed by these two companies, given its track record of property development success.

The media reports furthermore attribute the Billion Group's “success” in allegedly winning this bid to its connections with Lonwabo Sambula, President Zuma's son-in-law.

This is factually incorrect.

Mr. Sambula, who on one single occasion had acted as property broker for the Billion Group, is not:
a director of the any one of the two companies that have submitted the bid,
a shareholder or
an employee of any one of these companies,
He is neither a director or employee of or a shareholder in the Billion Group.
Furthermore, he was not involved in this bid, or any of our public tenders.

The Billion Group requests the opportunity to put the record straight. CEO Sisa Ngebulana feels it is most unfortunate that his reputable business has been tainted by allegations in the media and saddened that he had not once been contacted by any media to verify the facts.
