Speaking in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) yesterday, the President quoted from a letter he received from a group of farmers in the Northern Cape, who wanted to see the land reform process settled quickly.
The farmers claimed that the process was moving at a snail's pace.
'The complainant (farmer) said that when he contacted officials from Land Affairs they took time to respond, while he wanted the land programme to be speeded up because they are not talking about somebody else's land but their homeland'.
This particular group of farmers in the Northern Cape was working with a couple of farmers from KwaZulu-Natal, who were saying the same thing,' said the President.
He said it was the governments' responsibility to protect lives and property, adding that he was certain that the constant reflections on these and other matters had helped government to improve its transformation programmes as well as bring about efficiency and effectiveness in the implementation process. - BuaNews
