The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is a statutory body established in terms of the Engineering Profession Act (EPA), 46 of 2000, ECSA has full membership of the International Engineering Alliance (IEA).

The High Level delegation led by ECSA President, Mr Mashao Lawrence Lebea is in Mauritius from 06-13 November 2021 to reaffirm their commitment to further collaborate closely with the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology as counterparts and members of the Southern African Federation of Engineering Organisations (SAFEO).

The delegation will interact with the University of Mauritius (UOM) engineering programmes for accreditation, including the Institute of Engineering Mauritius (IEM) though meaningful deliberation of issues of mutual interest in line with the objectives of the International Engineering Alliance (IEA).

As the only engineering regulatory body of the African continent with full membership of the Alliance, ECSA through a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) intends for the visit to fulfil its commitment to work with Mauritius to jointly contribute to the implementation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) capacity development in engineering.

The delegation participated in a working session with the IEM, Engineering Accreditation Board (EBA), the Council of Registered Professional Engineers and Higher Education Authorities, which culminated in a round table discussion on Wednesday, 10 November 2021.

This morning, 11 November 2021, High Commissioner Dr Nelly Manzini will lead the High Level delegation for a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Honourable Mrs Leela Devi Dookhun.
