The meeting, the first since Dr Skweyiya was reappointed to lead this portfolio after the April 14 general elections, is set to take place in the Good Hope Chambers in Parliament.
The meeting aims to outline priorities of the social development sector for this and the next five years.
"This is an historic meeting that will go a long way in ensuring that provincial and national government work closely together in delivering in the mandate and confidence given to them by the majority of South Africans in the past elections, especially the poorest of the poor," the Minister said in a statement.
Top of the agenda will include accelerated service delivery to vulnerable sectors like older people, people with disabilities and children.
"Other issues will be the establishment of the National Social Security Agency, which will manage the disbursement of grants to millions of people at a cost of over R50-billion per year, programmes of poverty alleviation, programmes and policies to protect vulnerable children as well as welfare transformation and more," explained the department.
The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in February passed the Social Security Agency Bill and the Social Assistance Bill to ensure the effective management and administration of social grants.
The National Social Security Agency Bill establishes a specialised institution tasked with the management, administration and payment of social assistance grants.
The Social Assistance Bill creates uniform norms and standards that will apply countrywide. - BuaNews
