The seminar is co-convened by the government of Ethiopia and the United Nations Millennium Project task force on hunger, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the New Partnership for Africa's Development (Nepad) and the African Union (AU), among others.
Among the prominent speakers are the secretary general of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, the chair of the African Union Commission, Alpha Oumar Konare, and the chair of the Nepad steering committee, Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu.
According to available statistics, 200-million of the world's hungry people live in Africa where one person in three is undernourished.
Today's seminar, held a day before the start of the third ordinary session of the Assembly of the AU, will focus on solutions at both policy and technical levels.
These solutions will help inform the realisation of halving the world's hungry and malnourished people by 2015, as contained in the UN's Millennium Declaration. – Sapa.
