SASSFE’s management committee resolved at an August meeting that Moseneke and Thothela would be co-chairs of the committee to re-invigorate SASSFE’s work and facilitate greater inter-generational leadership.

The committee pointed out that since SASSFE’s launch in April 2016, the higher education landscape has continued to change and students have continued to face numerous challenges that needed to be overcome.

“It was tabled at the SASSFE Management Committee held in August 2018 that the critical action areas in the months ahead would include areas of academic excellence, mentorship initiatives, study materials, ongoing programmes to address student hunger, legal support and policy work to ensure effective systems to achieve free higher education for students in need as well as curriculum reform to achieve decolonised and Africanised curricula,” said SASSFE in a statement.

SASSFE was set up by former South African student leaders and aims to improve the lives of South African students through the mobilisation of university alumni.

Trustees include Makgoba, Judge Richard Goldstone, Judge Azar Cachalia and Professor Kgethi Phakeng.
