The South African Human Rights Commission’s (the Commission) Gauteng Provincial Office will embark on a monitoring roadshow in various parts of the Gauteng Province. The road show forms part of the Gauteng Provincial Offices monitoring initiatives aimed at assessing the observance and respect of human rights across the province. The districts to be visited during the roadshow include Ekurhuleni Municipality, Sedibeng District Municipality and the City of Johannesburg.
During the roadshow, the Commission will monitor the observance of human rights places of detention, healthcare facilities, old age homes, places of safety for children and secure care centres. The Gauteng Provincial Office will use the roadshow as an opportunity to identify challenges faced by community members in accessing public institutions and access to basic services.
The monitoring is scheduled to take place as follows:
