The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape notes the decision by the Cape Town Magistrates Court to drop all charges against eight activists accused of trespassing at the National Prosecuting Authority office in Cape Town.

These activists, known as the #NPA8, which include the Provincial Secretary of the Party, Comrade Benson Ngqentsu, were arrested for occupying the National Prosecuting Authority office in Cape Town and were calling for Presidendt Jacob Zuma to be charged and arrested for corruption.

The withdrawal of the charges against the #NPA8 does not suggest that this particular struggle is over. The SACP in the province will continue to work with progressive civil society groupings and activists in mobilizing society and the working class to ensure that President Jacob Zuma is brought to book.

As long as Zuma and his keepers are not challenged by the full might of the law and held accountable to the people, our economy will continue to plunge into a never-ending abyss, our SOE’s will be crippled by corruption and mismanagement and at the receiving end will be the vulnerable, the poor and the workers.

Early 2018 will see the SACP in the Province intensify its efforts to mobilize the working class and society in general around our call for Zuma to be charged and arrested.
