The Central Committee is the highest decision-making body of the SACP in between the Party’s national congresses, which are convened once every five years.

The purpose of the First Plenary of the SACP Central Committee is to elect its Political Bureau—the highest decision-making body of the Party in between Central Committee meetings, establish Central Committee commissions and sub-committees, discuss latest political, economic and social developments, as well as the theoretical and practical measures to take forward the Party programme in the next five years.

The SACP 15th National Congress, held in mid-July, amended the Party Constitution to establish the Central Ethics Commission and Discipline Inspectorate. This is part of the efforts by the SACP to enhance the personal conduct of its members and leaders to serve as the standard bearers of communist ethics, and to strengthen organisational and political discipline of SACP members, leaders and structures not only within the ranks of the Party but across society at large.

Among others, the Central Committee will therefore appoint SACP stalwarts who will constitute the Central Ethics Commission and Discipline Inspectorate. The key aims of the Party include intensifying the fight against corruption, corporate-capture and other unwanted conduct on all fronts of the struggle, transformation and development.
