The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) welcomes the signing of service delivery contracts across the country by leaders in all three levels of government. This is a major step forward in holding officials accountable for service delivery failures. Countrywide, SACCI chambers of commerce have had poor experiences relating to sanitation, water and electricity supply and infrastructure maintenance which has been exacerbated by recent strikes. They look forward to improvements in these and other areas of local government responsibility.
SACCI believes that the example set by Tongaat in establishing a delivery improvement forum on which all stakeholders are represented is a positive development that should be emulated by all local authorities. The chambers of commerce that are affiliated to SACCI would welcome the opportunity to serve on such forums.
These developments provide a platform on which to promote South Africa First - a constructive method of building the nation and of improving the economic environment in South Africa.
