In anticipation of the State of the Nation Address to be delivered by President Zuma, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry is looking forward to clarity of the policy direction and implementation on the issues below.
1. The creation of a nurturing business environment:
1.1. Clarity on government’s programs to support and develop SMME’s.
1.2. Progress on programmes to reduce red tape for business.
1.3. Progress and new strategies on addressing corruption.
2. Government’s programmes to create a more competitive workforce:
2.1. Measures to address the skills shortages and improve the education system.
2.2. Implementation of programmes to address the employment challenge and youth unemployment in particular.
3. Further clarity is needed with regards to progress on land reform, the green economy strategy (especially in the context of South Africa’s hosting of COP 17) and on the current policy thinking in respect of National Health Insurance.
