SACCI welcomes the commitments made by the Minister of Higher Education and Training in the departmental budget speech which he delivered last week. The overall tone of the speech showed a clear understanding of what needs to be done in order to achieve the job creation targets set in the New Growth Path.

SACCI specifically welcomes the focus on technical training and the attention that is being paid to the institutions such as the FET colleges that will provide theoretical training so necessary to complement practical on the ground training that needs to take place on the job.

SACCI has always been of the view that education forms the foundation for the development of skills needed to grow the economy. SACCI therefore applauds the strengthening of teacher training.

As with all strategies it is in the implementation that results are achieved. The programmes identified by Minister Nzimande are ambitious and SACCI stands ready to assist so as to ensure that the objectives are realized.
