The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) is calling on business to get involved in the chamber movement to have a say in the future of the country. South Africa has serious challenges facing the economic health of our country. Businesses must participate in the chamber movement because it informs policy developments on a national and international level.
SACCI is proud to host the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Mr Jean-Guy Carrier at the 2012 SACCI Annual Convention at Gallagher Convention Centre on the 4th and 5th of October. The precise goal of the Annual Convention is to facilitate the debate between business and its social partners (labour and government).
Mr Carrier noted that South Africa is not alone in the problems it faces and that the international view of South Africa is of an increasingly important emerging market. According to Mr Carrier, it is crucial that business influence economic and political decisions both nationally and internationally. Especially in this time of global economic turbulence, governments around the world are far more open to hear concrete suggestions from the business community. The fact that business is increasingly integrated due to the forces of globalisation shows that interaction with government also needs to take place on an international level. One example of such an international forum is the G20, where decisions made trickles down to the everyday circumstances of businesses. Mr Carrier noted that the ICC carries the business mandate to the G20.
The SACCI Annual Convention 2012 will bring together senior government officials, business leaders and labour representatives to discuss the pertinent issues facing the South African economy, notably job creation by the private sector.
