The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has replaced Kaizer Kganyago as the South African public broadcaster's spokesperson after 13 years.

Neo Momodu has been appointed as the SABC's chief marketing and corporate affairs executive and will add the role of acting spokesperson.

Kganyago who remains part of the SABC's communications division is being moved to another role at the SABC, with the broadcaster saying Momodu will be taking up both roles "with immediate effect".

The now-fired former chief operating officer (COO) of the SABC, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, previously held this position of "group executive of corporate affairs" before he was fired in June 2017.

Momodu who previously worked for the SABC for four years from 2003, has a LL.B (Hons from the University of Hertfordshire and a post-graduate diploma from the Wits Business School and was head of corporate affairs at Media24 between May 2014 and April 2016.

The SABC said that in her new role Momodu will work with top execs to try and position the SABC as "an authentic and world-class public service broadcaster to fulfill its mandate of acting continuously for the betterment of our society".

Momodu will "also be responsible for enhancing the SABC's engagement strategies with its key stakeholders, acting as the overall driver of corporate communications and marketing".

Madoda Mxakwe, SABC CEO said "I'm thrilled to welcome Neo Momodu to the SABC. She joins at a critical stage when we are working towards turning around the organisation.

"Neo Momodu brings an impressive career in the media and communications sphere, as well as valuable experience with our brands. We are confident that she is equipped to lead this critical division of the organisation. The board and management of the SABC wish Neo Momodu well in executing her duties."
