The Office of former President Thabo Mbeki has noted ongoing press reports regarding Mr. Courtenay Griffiths' visit to South Africa.

Mr. Griffiths who apparently serves as legal representative to former Liberian President Charles Taylor has publicly stated his wish to meet with Mr. Mbeki to discuss matters related to Mr. Taylor trial in The Hague.

Mr. Mbeki's Office wishes to state, for the record, that Mr. Griffiths has not made any contact with Mr. Mbeki, either formally or informally.

No meeting has therefore taken place between Mr. Mbeki and Mr. Griffiths nor is there any planned.

It surprises us that Mr. Griffiths seems to believe that the best way to arrange a meeting between himself and Mr. Mbeki is through the media.
