The National organisations of People living with HIV/AIDS hold a national summit for the first time in the history of HIV in South Africa. Many attempts have been made by the Deputy President of South Africa who is the chairperson of the South African AIDS Council (SANAC) to intervene with the organisational differences of the sector. Finally this year these organisations decided to rise above their differences for the sake of the sector and to convene this national summit. The summit is organised under the banner of South African National AIDS Council is a multisectoral response to the deal with HIV/TB and STI’s in South Africa. The summit is expected to come up with its sector plan and nominate representatives to SANAC structures.

SANAC launched the new National Strategic plan for HIV/TB/STI’s 2012-2016 which aims to:
• Reduce new HIV infections by at least 50% using a combination of prevention approaches.
• To initiate at least 80% of eligible patients on ART with 70% of those alive and on treatment five years after initiation.
• To reduce the number of new TB infections as well as deaths from TB by 50%.
• To ensure an enabling and accessible legal framework that protects and promotes human rights in order to support implementation of the NSP.
