Government has urged South Africans to continue being good hosts despite Bafana Bafana's early exit from the historic 2010 FIFA World Cup, hosted for the first time on African soil.

President Jacob Zuma said: "We know that Bafana's win is not enough to take them through to the next round, but we applaud them for bowing out in style, with a victory against France.

President Zuma added: "It would have been great to have Bafana Bafana progress to the next stage, but their exit doesn't mean the end of the tournament.

"Government urges South Africans to continue playing an active role in the country's hosting of the historic 2010 FIFA World Cup. After all, this is still our World Cup.

"Despite Bafana Bafana not making it to the next stage of the World Cup, the nation is already victorious by virtue of hosting this momentous occasion. We are enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"Government calls on South Africans and visitors alike to keep up the good spirit that has so far characterised our hosting of the tournament since kick-off on June 11.

Fan Parks and Public Viewing Areas (PVAs) remain open, free of charge, to the public in various locations across the country, and the President has urged South Africans to make use of the facilities.
