The Presidency is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Nono Simelela as Adviser to Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe on HIV and AIDS, TB and other health matters in general.
Dr Simelela will commence with her duties immediately and her responsibilities will include liaising with all stakeholders involved in the national efforts to combat HIV and AIDS and will advise the Deputy President on all matters concerning the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) and government programmes on HIV and Aids and TB.
Her immediate task will be to coordinate and oversee the writing of the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on HIV and AIDS, as the current strategy is expiring this year.
Dr Nono Simelela occupied various high profile positions in the Public and Private sectors, nationally and internationally, dealing with issues of HIV and AIDS. Her latest position before joining The Presidency was Chief Executive Officer of SANAC.
