The Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation wishes to congratulate South Africa Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) President, Mr Gideon Sam, on his re-election.
 
The Committee has always appreciated the good relations it has with Sascoc and wishes Mr Sam, the First and Second Vice Presidents Ms Hajera Kajee and Mr Les Williams and the newly-elected board well for the next four years.
 
With the re-election of Mr Sam, the Committee hopes that federations under SASCOC will continue working tirelessly towards attaining their goals. The Committee is of the view that Mr Sam's re-election will help to push the transformation agenda in all sporting codes as well as ensuring that there is proper corporate governance in all federations.
 
The Committee also believes that Sam's re-election is good for the country's medal aspirations at the 2016 Olympic Games, to be staged in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It must be noted that Team SA performed very well at the 2012 London Games under Mr Sam’s leadership.
