The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education has requested officials from the Department of Basic Education to return next week with a more detailed report on its Catch-Up Plan for learners in Limpopo.
The Department presented an update on the Catch-Up Plan to the Committee yesterday. However, the Committee felt that the plan did not speak to the expectations of the members as it was unclear what exactly the Catch-Up Plan was and no timelines were attached to it.
The Committee expected responses from the Department on what the impact of the late delivery of textbooks in Limpopo would be on education in this province. They also sought clarity on whether the Department had the buy-in from all stakeholders in its Catch-Up Plan. This was especially important so that all the parties could work together for the betterment of education in the province.
As the Department was unable to answer these questions, the Committee unanimously decided that the Department should come back on Tuesday with a more detailed Catch-Up Plan.
