Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Andries Nel, will today travel to The Hague, Netherlands, to participate in the 11th session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.


The 11th Session also marks the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the International Criminal Court and South Africa will also participate in a debate entitled “Tenth anniversary of the entry into force of the Rome Statute: the challenges ahead.”

The 11th Session of the Assembly will amongst others discuss the election of the Deputy Prosecutor of the ICC, progress on the Kampala Review Conference and amendments to the Rome Statute and Rules of Procedure and Evidence.  South Africa will also make use of the opportunity to deliver a Country Statement on Thursday, 15 November 2012  .
