The North West Provincial Legislature will be commemorating the annual Nelson Mandela Day with the community of Tseoge Village in the Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality on Thursday, 19 July 2012.

On that day, the Speaker of the Legislature, Hon. Mahumapelo, together with Members of the Provincial Legislature will renovate and clean the Tseoge Tribal Hall and provide computers, office furniture and stationery for the tribal office to function effectively. The Honourable Speaker, together with the Public Participation Unit of the Legislature, will also be conducting workshops on the role of the Legislature in our communities.

All this will be done to commemorate the struggle icon and former President of the Republic of South Africa, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. The Nelson Mandela International Day officially declared by the United Nations in 2009, is aimed at celebrating the 67 years Nelson Mandela gave of his life in fighting for human rights and social justice. It is a global call for action for people to recognise their individual abilities to change the world around them by giving 67 minutes of their time.

Tseoge is a remote village near Morokweng of about 3000 people headed by Kgosi Motlhalehi Setlhabetsi. It is the origin of the more developed villages such as Morokweng and Ganyesa.

The community has a high unemployment rate and mostly relies on conditional social grants.

Most provincial departments do not have satellite offices located in the village to render basic socio-economic services.

The Legislature delegation will also visit elderly people to check whether all their needs are catered for by government.

Members of the media interested to attend should contact Mongezi Tsenca at 072 632 0880.
