Parliament, Wednesday 8 August 2012 – The Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests held its ordinary meeting today and agreed the following:

The Committee agreed to forward the requested information on Hon. Maite Nkoane-Mashabane and Hon. Ruth Bhengu, to the Public Protector. The Committee understands that the information cannot be used to review the resolutions of the Committee but is provided for information purposes.

The Committee set a provisional date for a workshop to review the Code of Conduct for the 22 August 2012.

Agreed to extend the deadline for submission of the 2012 disclosure of interest to 23 August 2012. Further resolved that the extent of Members compliance to the original deadline of the 31 July 2012 and the extended deadline of 23 August 2012 be reported in the Committee’s 2012 Annual Report.

Noted that Hon. Ruth Bhengu complied with the disclosure requirements of the Code of Conduct. Resolved that the deal pursued by Riblore 22 creates a potential conflict of interest for Ms Bhengu. This potential conflict of interests has been referred to the Speaker of the National Assembly for further consideration

The Registrar has requested a response in respect of the allegations in the media against Minister Dina Pule, the Committee awaits her response.
