ell-aware of the need to continually communicate with Gauteng communities, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has moved in quickly to appoint a new spokesperson.

Former Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) spokesperson, Thebe Mohatle, will start in his new position at the beginning of August 2012. This follows the resignation of Xoli Mngambi, who is serving his notice until the end of July 2012.

"We are cognisant of the importance of communication in keeping our communities abreast on the progress and challenges faced in the delivery of services. Given the immediacy and sensitivity around accounting for our work, we needed to appoint an experienced communicator familiar with the structures and processes of the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG).

Thebe's background in government and working with communities willcertainly add value to our work and help enhance our messaging," Mokonyane said.

Mohatle, who is currently the Education Manager for the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Programme and their former Communications and PR Manager, is thrilled by the challenges offered by the responsibilities of his appointment.

The Premier's new spokesperson holds a BA Communication degree from the University of the North West and a certificate in Advanced Media and Journalism from the Institute of Advanced Journalism (IAJ). He also has a strong community development background from his time at Operation Hunger in the 90s.

He has been credited with strengthening relations amongst Kaizer Chiefs supporters by creating and utilising platforms of engagement through extensive development communications approaches. This meant frequent visits to branches throughout the country.

"I must say that I am extremely humbled to be given the opportunity to serve the people of Gauteng in this very demanding position. I am looking forward to joining a team of very capable officials who have been doing a wonderful job supporting the work of Premier Mokonyane and the Executive," Mohatle said.

The Premier further took the opportunity to thank Mngambi for his contribution to the work of the GPG and wished him well in his future endeavours.
