The Gauteng Department of Health has appointed five senior managers in ongoing efforts to achieve a turnaround and stability.
These appointments are part of the department’s turnaround strategy which was launched last month with an aim to ensure stability to finances and top management. The plan also aims at ensuring that clinics have essential medication, hospitals do not have to contend with malfunctioning equipment as well as proper allocation of resources.
The new Chief Financial Officer, Mr Ndoda Biyela has joined the department from KwaZulu-Natal Treasury Department where he was General Manager: Public Finance. During his career, he has held a number of senior positions in government departments and he holds a Master’s in Economics, Development Finance and Banking from the American University amongst other qualifications.
Ms Babalwa Mgolombane has been appointed to head the infrastructure unit and she was previously from Intersite Investments where she was responsible for Strategic Management of Development business unit. She has extensive experience in infrastructure and holds a Masters Degree amongst other qualifications.
To boost efforts aimed at re-engineering primary health care, Ms Meisie Lerutla has been appointed as Chief Director: District Health Services. Ms. Lerutla has technical and managerial expertise in health services management including Maternal Health, Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV and AIDS programming. She also has experience in strategy development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Amongst other qualifications, she has a Masters Degree in Public Health and is also a trained nurse specializing in midwifery.
The department also appointed Chief Director: Health Economics and Finance, Mr Thulani Matsebula. He joined the Department from Council for Medical Schemes where he was working as Head of Research and Monitoring. He has worked in senior positions in different organizations and holds a Master of Science in Economic and Quantitative Methods in Health from the City University, London.
Mr Mojalefa Lekoto was appointed as the Chief Director: Information Communications and Technology. He is from Department of Education in Limpopo where he was General Manager: ICT. He holds a Masters Degree in Information Technology amongst other qualifications.
The department continues to implement the Turnaround Strategy 2012-2014.
