On hearing today of the passing of one of South African mining industry’s most astute and dedicated colleague, Dr. Frans Barker the Minister: Ms Susan Shabangu, Deputy Minister: Mr Godfrey Olifant and officials of the department of Mineral Resources wish to convey their heartfelt condolences to Dr. Barker’s family and the Chamber of Mines.

“Frans was such a dedicated colleague, eager to get to a solution yet very calm during hard times. His contribution to the mining industry will forever continue to guide us as we again as the sector face challenges. His expertise contributed immensely in moving us forward and for that we will solely miss him”, said Minister Shabangu.

The department joins with so many others that knew Dr. Barker our deepest sympathy on his passing.
