The matter of “runaway” information technology (IT) expert and his co-defendant allegedly accused of defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) of R1,2-million will be heard tomorrow, 6 December in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.

Kenneth Martin Mahuluhulu (32) from Pretoria and Khathutshelo Nethengwe (35) from Olifantsfontein have been on the run. The two are alleged to have committed their alleged crime between 2006 and 2009.

Mahuluhulu was nabbed in August at his place of work at the University of South Africa (Unisa). His fellow co-accused Nethengwe, a former employee of the Department of Labour subsequently handed himself in October.  

They are alleged to be working as a syndicate to milk the department by submitting and processing fraudulent claims by by-passing the systems.

The “runaway” defendants are out on a bail of R5000-00. They face fraud charges. Their matter was postponed on November 19 to allow them to consult with their legal representatives.

The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour. The Fund’s objective is to provide compensation for disability, illness, and death resulting from occupational injuries and diseases.
