The South African High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan – which is also accredited to Afghanistan – has been informed that eight South African nationals were amongst the dead in an explosion that occurred in Kabul at about 04:00 this morning, 18 September 2012.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation is in contact with the aviation company that employed the deceased. The Department is also in possession of the list of names of the deceased. Efforts to confirm their identities and to contact their next-of-kin are currently underway.

The Department wishes to express its sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased. The necessary consular assistance will be rendered to the families.
