SA: Statement by the Department of Higher Education and Training, on the Further Education and Training Colleges Amendment Bill (13/05/2011)

On 15 April 2011, the Minister of Higher Education and Training published the Further Education and Training Colleges Amendment Bill, 2011; theHigher Education Laws Amendment Bill, 2011 and the Skills Development Amendment Bill, 2011, in Notice No.228, Government Gazette No. 34222 and invited all interested persons to comment thereon.
Notwithstanding the tight timeframes of the Parliamentary Programme, 2011, and after receiving numerous requests from stakeholders and organisations, the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande has agreed to extend the closing date for the call for comments until mid-night on Sunday, the 22 May 2011.
The Minister expresses his appreciation for the interest shown and invites all interested persons and organisations to comment on the draft Bills in writing, and to direct their comments to –
The Director General, Private Bag X174, 0001 for attention: Mr VL Rikhotso, and/or per email Rikhotso.v@dhet.gov.za <mailto:Rikhotso.v@dhet.gov.za> .
All submissions must contain the name, address, telephone number, fax number and email address of the persons or organisation.
In the spirit of social dialogue and in the best interest of achieving a common goal in higher education and training, every person’s cooperation and assistance to prioritise these Bills are imperative to successfully realise the goal of creating a vibrant and responsivepost-school education and training system that will contribute to a growing, appropriately transformed and inclusive economy.
