A father and his son will appear in the Hermanus Magistrate’s Court this morning after they were arrested by officials from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on Thursday evening, 19 July 2012 for being in possession of 10 408 units of abalone.

The arrests took place on the Salmonsdam Road in Stanford where the Toyota Quantum, that was used to transport the consignment, was hidden amongst trees and bushes. The vehicle was confiscated.

DAFF remains committed to fight the illegal fishing and harvesting of our marine resources and call on all communities and individuals to work with us and other law enforcement agencies to bring an end to the irresponsible exploitation of our marine resources.
