The City of Tshwane in partnership with Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (CBRTA) will host an HIV/AIDS Health Awareness roadshow on 17 October 2012 to address transport operators on issues relating to this pandemic. The event will start at 09:00 at Belle Ombre Taxi Rank.
This initiative aims to assist the passenger transport operators with all the necessary knowledge required to sustain their business which plays a significant role in the economic growth of the city.
This is one of the major events the City will embark on in this month toraise awareness of the important role of transport in the economy, and to invite participation from civic society and business in providing a safer, more affordable, accessible and reliable transport system.
Voluntary HIV/AIDS testing will be conducted on the day at different cross boarder taxi ranks in the city. The main attraction of the day would be the Mobile Clinic. There will be health professionals that would be addressing the operators on different aspects relating to HIV/AIDS.
This campaign is a pilot project which will also be conducted in the City of Johannesburg and later on in other municipalities across the country.
This week alone, the City will host three other events namely, handing over of Shova Kalula bicycles to three schools; Road Safety Awareness Campaign targeting school children; and National Car Free Day.
