The African National Congress Youth League has today, 3 September
2012, met with concerned employees of the National Consumer Commission
as well as small business on the continuing victimization of National
Consumer Commissioner, Ms Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi.

Ms Mohlala-Muluadzi has an outstanding track record since her days as
the Pension Fund Adjudicator, fearlessly taking on massive pension
funds in defence of South Africans. She did sterling work at the
Department of Communications and was nonetheless remove from her
position arising from her differences with the then Minister of
Communications.

Her contract ends today and is not renewed by the Minister of Trade
and Industry, Comrade Rob Davies. The reasons forwarded that her
contract has ended are frivolous to say the least given that a
decision to not renew a contract should consider amongst others the
performance of the incumbent in her role.

Since the establishment of the National Consumer Commission, the
Commission under the steady leadership has determinedly fought for the
rights of South African consumers, rattling the cages of big business
that continues to fix prices and collude to the detriment of South
Africans. Amongst these have the motor industry, the construction
industry and many others, whose activities have been under radar. We
are left with no doubt that Ms Mohlala-Mulaudzi’s dismissal is nothing
but an attempt to continue to protect big business in South Africa.
Minister Rob Davies must properly assess her performance and in line
with fair labour practice, provide her with concrete reasons in the
event that her performance has been substandard given the impressive
work society has seen her undertake.
