The African National Congress joins the citizens of South Africa in
marking the 7th Anniversary of the adoption of the Positive Values
Charter as part of the Moral Regeneration Movement, today in 2008. The
Positive Values Charter was adopted to generate a moral vision for the
country; restoring and anchoring shared values and entrenching collective
responsibility for rightful conduct amongst all South Africans.

Today, 7 years later, the Positive Values Charter and indeed the Moral
Regeneration Movement in general, remains relevant as all South Africans
are called upon to recommit themselves to building a nation grounded on
positive values where there is respect for human dignity and equality
with the rule of law and democracy being supreme. We once again commit
ourselves to using this second phase of our transition to boldly drive
radical socio-economic transformation to build a caring society where
there is economic justice and improved material well-being for all.

To realise the goals of the Moral Regeneration Movement, the African
National Congress remains convinced that as a country we must, as per the
prescripts of our 53rd National Congress, implement a comprehensive
programme that focuses on the war on poverty, which addresses the
challenges of poverty, inequality and underdevelopment and is based on
advancing and defending human rights.
