SA: Statement by Thandiswa Marawu, MEC for Transport, Roads and Public Works, on opening Trading Entity main office (03/10/2012)

MEC for Transport, Roads and Public Works, Thandiswa Marawu officially opened the newly-established Provincial Government Fleet Management Services Trading Entity Main Office and handed over 300 vehicles to various government departments at West Bank in East London on 2 October 2012.

“The facility that we are opening here today is another milestone of the Provincial Administration in this electoral term,” said MEC.

She informed the guests that Trading Entity has satellite offices in all districts to technically operate on business principles “without” a profit as we believe that the efficiency and effectiveness will be of utmost importance in order to successfully service our sister departments with all fleet requirements based on fleet management principles aligned to government.

Today, Marawu said: I can confirm that that the target of 340 vehicles for the second quarter has been achieved. Those vehicles are here today and ready for delivery to various departments, including:

  • Agriculture - 20
  • Department of Economic Development - 5
  • Education - 41
  • Health - 137
  • Human Settlement - 4
  • Local Government and Traditional Affairs - 7 (one collected already), 2 for Disaster Management
  • Office of the Premier- 9 (one collected already)
  • Treasury- 4 (one collected already)
  • Roads and Public Works - 16
  • Safety and Liaison - 6 ( one collected already)
  • Social Development and Special Programmes - 52
  • Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture - 7
  • Emergency Services - 20

“The Entity has a plan to ensure that women, youth and people with disabilities also benefit from its operations. I would like to encourage these vulnerable groups to register as merchants for panel beating, maintenance, breakdown services, auctioneers and car wash service providers,” she said.

She also called upon the civil servants to protect government vehicles and said: “Ladies and gentlemen, we call upon our civil servants to ensure that we protect these vehicles as they are a critical tool for service delivery to the people of this province.”
