Sport and Recreation South Africa hosted the Mascot Prize Giving and revealed AFCON 2013 Mascot “Takuma” at Dikgorwaneng Primary School in Hammanskraal. The Prize Giving was the culmination of Primary Schools Competition which was run over a period of three months.

The public had an opportunity to vote for the best Sport Mascot to be adopted for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2013 Championship and later as a Sport Mascot for all Sport Events and Tournaments in South Africa.

Sport and Recreation South Africa in partnership with the AFCON 2013 LOC awarded the prize winners and their schools. The Prizes were as follows:

Designer of the Winning Mascot for AFCON 2013 Champion:

Mr Tumelo Nkoana

  • Family trip to Gold Reef City R13 680.00 ( accommodation, traveling and entertainment)
  • 4 Hospitality Tickets for Opening Match – R2994 X 4 (Learner, parents and one teacher)
  • School Uniform Voucher for 2013 valued at R1000.00
  • Art Set for Painting and Drawing valued at R500.00
  • Grocery voucher worth R500 for 12 months

Dikgorwaneng Primary School Prizes:

  • Sport Equipment for Football and Netball valued at R25 779.00
  • Category 3 Tickets for the Opening Match on the 19 January 2013 for the Learners, Teachers and Administrative Staff. 500 x R100 per ticket
  • 3 x Official Champion Football “Katlego”

The two runners up Mascot Designers:

Mr Luyolo Mbolokwana from Siyabulela Primary School in Cape Town

  • Family trip to Gold Reef City R34 480.00
  • School Uniform Voucher for 2013 valued at R1000.00
  • 4 Hospitality Tickets for Opening Match valued at R2994 x 4 (Learner, parents and one teacher)

Sport Equipment Volleyball and Football for Siyabulela Primary School valued R14 495.06

Tlhagele Primary School Prizes:

Sport Equipment for Cricket and Football valued at R17 026.92

  • School Uniform Voucher for 2013 valued at R1000.00
