On Monday, 12 November 2012, 40 mineworkers barricaded the road leading to the Extrata Kroondal Mine near Matebeleng informal settlement. The miners threw stones at the police when they were asked not to disturb the smooth flow of traffic. Police used rubber bullets to disperse miners. Sixty other mineworkers were sitting 100 metres away from the mine waiting for their leadership who were in a meeting with the mine management to give them report on the outcome of their demands. No injuries were reported.

It is alleged that at Swartklip mine, mineworkers are near the mine in small number of groups. The management of the mine is considering closing the mine temporarily as these groups of people are intimidating mineworkers that have reported for duty and threatening of attacking them at their residential areas. They also want to stop mine operations.  

Police are at the mine monitoring the situation and ensuring that mineworkers on duty are not attacked.

Today at Khuseleka shaft, 4 000 mineworkers from Zakhele, Entabeni and Mfidikwe gathered at Khuseleka mine. Mineworkers barricaded roads with stones and tree branches. Their leaders spoke with them and they dispersed peacefully. No injuries were reported.

It is alleged that on Sunday night at about 22h00, a mine truck was burnt by unknown suspects at the same mine and no one was arrested. The situation is calm and police are monitoring the situation.
