South African Airways (SAA) wishes to advise its customers that flights between SA and the US are now back to normal.

Approval was obtained from the airport authorities in New York to recommence flight operations to JFK airport, said Tlali Tlali, SAA’s Group Corporate Affairs Executive.

SAA will resume normal flights between Johannesburg and New York’s JFK according to its usual schedules as follows:

1.     Flight SA203

31 October 2012 leaving Johannesburg at 20h25, arriving in New York/JFK on 01 November at 06h40

2.     Flight SA204

01 November 2012 leaving New York/JFK at 11h15, arriving in Johannesburg on 02 November at 08h15

Flights between Johannesburg and Washington DC have also resumed with the scheduled flight to Washington DC taking-off from Johannesburg on 30 October 2012 at 20h14 and arriving in Washington DC on 31 October 2012 at 09h14.

“Onward connecting flights beyond JFK are still not fully restored to normal operations,” said Tlali. “In addition, passengers are advised that ground transportation and underground rail systems in New York are not yet restored to full operation.”

Passengers are advised to get updated information with regard to ground transportation and onward flight connections when checking in.

“SAA deeply regrets the inconvenience to passengers caused by the cancellation of its flights to the US this week as a result of Hurricane Sandy,” said Tlali. “We are pleased that flight operations to the US are returning to normal and we will do everything we can in order to accommodate those who were unable to fly due to the extreme weather conditions.”
