Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele has instructed the Board of the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral), an agency of the Department of Transport, to ensure that all information pertaining to the upgrading of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) Phase 1A is made public.
The Minister’s instruction follows the handing over of documents relating to the GFIP by Mr. Nazir Alli, CEO of Sanral, to Cosatu earlier today (Tuesday, 13 March 2012) at the eTV studios in Johannesburg, where certain parts of the documents were made illegible.
“We have instructed the Board of Sanral to ensure that all relevant information pertaining to the upgrading of the GFIP Phase 1A is accessible to the public. We have also instructed the Board to call Mr. Alli to account in this regard, as we do not agree with access to selective information in this matter,” said Minister Ndebele.
