South African Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Zuma, today, Tuesday 22 September arrived in New York where she will join the South African Government delegation led by President Zuma at attend the opening session of the 54th UN General Assembly scheduled for New York on Wednesday 23 September 2009.

Following the opening session of the UN General Assembly, Minister Dlamini Zuma will proceed to the Socialist International Conference to be held in New York on the same day in which a report of the Socialist International Commission on a Sustainable World is expected to be presented to the Presidium of the organisation. Minister Dlamini Zuma serves as a Commissioner of the Socialist International's Commission on a Sustainable World.

Discussions at the Conference, which will co-chaired by Ricardo Lagos, former President of Chile and Goran Persson, former Swedish Prime Minister, are expected to focus on among other key issues of international importance.

• Global warming and climate change: the Socialist democratic platform for a sustainable world society
• The current global financial and economic crisis
• As well as the forthcoming G20 Summit

Minister Dlamini Zuma is later in the week expected to proceed to Switzerland where she will lead a South African Government delegation to the UN Conference to discuss the issued of Migration and Immigration scheduled for Geneva.
