Kgosi Leruo Molotlegi and almost 100 members of the Royal Bafokeng Nation from the North West Province will visit Parliament this week to find out more about the institution and how it works.

The Royal Bafokeng Administration manages service delivery and economic development in the community and the purpose of this week's visit is to explore best practice models on institutional governance that can enhance service delivery.

A delegation, comprising councillors from the Royal Bafokeng Administration, dikgosana, members of the royal clan and support staff arrives tomorrow and will spend Tuesday 13 October and Wednesday 14 October going on the tours of Parliament that the institution offers to the public, observing meetings of committees of Parliament's National Assembly (NA) and National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and a sitting of the NA.

Members of the delegation will also meet the Chief Whips of the majority party and of the NCOP, opposition parties in Parliament, the Secretary to Parliament and pay courtesy visits to Parliament's Presiding Officers and traditional leaders who are members of Parliament.

The Royal Bafokeng Nation is a legal entity comprising about 300 000 members who live mainly in the Rustenberg area in North West Province on about 1 200 square kilometres of an area containing the world's largest single source of chromium, vanadium and platinum.

Until 2007, the Royal Bafokeng Nation's main source of income was an annual royalty from Impala Platinum Limited for lease of land on which the mine is located. In 2007 the royalty was converted into equity in Implats. The Bafokeng's 13% share in Implats makes it the single largest shareholder in Impala and income now comes in the form of dividends.

Besides mining (Platinum and coal), Royal Bafokeng Holdings (Pty) Ltd manages a portfolio spanning finance, telecommunications (Vodacom), manufacturing, the services sector and sport (soccer and rugby).
