The long-drawn-out truck driver strike which claimed the lives of innocent people before it ended following a three-year agreement has portrayed South Africa in a negative light.
Congress of the People (COPE) is happy that the wildcat strike has finally ended before it dented the country economy further.
However, the South African Police Service must now focus and intensify their probe into all criminal related incidents, including the deaths of innocent truck drivers, in efforts to bring justice to the families of the victims of the violent strike. Although workers in the country have the right to strike/ demonstration; that must never be used as excuse for violence or lawlessness.
The police must bring all perpetrators to book and send out a strong message that the country will never tolerate lawlessness of any form. We will never condone the use of any form of violence and threats whenever workers embark on a strike over wages.
