Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has reiterated the Department's commitment to meeting government's equity targets in terms of race, age and gender.

The Minister was responding to a written parliamentary question from the Freedom Front Plus regarding the Department's compliance with employment equity targets for employees on salary levels 8-12.

In explaining the Department's employment according to age, race and gender, Minister Dlamini Zuma said, "The Department is committed to achieving parity in terms of gender as well as to equity targets prescribed by government."

"In this regard, we have achieved gender parity at salary level 8 with males and females each amounting to 50% of the workforce. At salary levels 10 and 12 we still have work to do with females accounting for 39% and 46% respectively. We are however making significant progress in this regard."

"The Department is also currently conducting training programmes for front office staff employees in customer service and other essential skills which will go a long way towards improving the skills profile of our employees. We are also working on making the Department of Home Affairs an employer of choice for our young people," concluded Minister Dlamini Zuma.
