The Mozambique elections is held over the period 21 October to 5 November 2009.
The SA National Defence Force has been mandated to deploy a contingent in support of the elections under the auspices of the Mozambican Electoral Commission. This is in the fulfilment of the international obligations of the Republic of South Africa towards the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, in support of the national elections.
The contingent will involve air assets and supporting elements to facilitate the transportation of electoral materials and personnel to and from polling stations prior and post to the elections.
The Operation will be executed based on the tenets of the 1999 South Africa-Mozambique bi-lateral agreement, and in the spirit of cooperation between Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries.
