South Africa’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, His Excellency Yusuf Saloojee, is at his posting in Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman, temporarily pending the finalisation of an ongoing internal investigation.

The department recalled Ambassador Saloojee and put him on a three-month suspension beginning 1 July 2012 to allow for an internal investigation into allegations made against him by a former employee of a South African mobile phone company operating in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The allegations are linked to Ambassador Saloojee’s tenure as South Africa’s Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The department views the allegations in a serious light, hence the investigation.

The department is unable to disclose details of the investigation at this point due to the fact that the investigation is still going on. Such disclosure may also compromise employer-employee privilege.

Ambassador Saloojee’s return to Muscat is temporary, pending the finalisation and outcomes of the investigation.
