Farm workers continue to strike and continue to demand a living wage of R150 per day! Tomorrow 13th November will be a day to be remembered on the farms in the Western Cape.
Other farm workers, seasonal workers and communities will come out on strike and take solidarity action in support of the demand for a living wage of R150 per day.
Marikana has come to farms!!!
On Saturday the negotiations between the Minister of Agriculture, Forests and Fishing (DAFF), the leadership of AGRI-SA, AGRI-WC; Hex Valley Table-grape farmers, CCMA, unions including COSATU and the farm workers from De Doorns and Wellington failed to reach a decision on the demands made by workers for a living wage and for living and working conditions.
This morning the unions, community organisations, NGOs and farm worker committees formed a coalition that will co-ordinate a campaign for a living wages and decent living and working conditions on the farms in our country.
The coalition’s chairperson Tony Ehreinreich (also COSATU Western Cape provincial chairperson) indicated that this is the start of a rolling mass action. The start of the campaign will include a stayaway and solidarity action tomorrow, 13th November.
Farm workers are saying that want an end to poverty wages and slave conditions on the farms.
